Unbounded Creativity: Finding Freedom and Faith Through Art

My artwork knows no bounds, despite the lofty expectations I impose on myself. Painting has become a great way for me to express myself. My artwork has no say in what I do, nor does it judge me.

Anxiety consumed me as I was doing laundry this morning. I had a daunting amount of laundry, including what I hadn’t done the previous week.

Once everything started, ... However, tasks before work and endless clothes consumed my mind.

After beginning to work at a vineyard, I have simultaneously launched a new business. As a Canadian citizen in the US, I couldn’t do anything while waiting for my green card. My artistic spirit has always burned brightly within me, but when the pandemic descended, I crossed paths with my future spouse and revealed my past endeavours in painting. However, I didn’t think I had any talent, so I stopped doing it. I couldn’t contain my happiness as he motivated me to continue painting, his persistence paid off when I finally felt a deep sense of contentment with the artwork I had crafted. It allowed me to express myself.

Due to the pandemic, people experienced immense stress and anxiety, uncertain of the situation. The more and more I began feeling overwhelmed with anxiety, the more I painted. My husband then said that he thought I could make a business out of this. Despite my disbelief in my artistic skills, his persistent encouragement motivated me to seek different outlets for my art beyond t-shirt designs. I stumbled upon a company where I discovered I could create shoes!

Not only because of how impressive they looked but also because they symbolized stepping out, shoes grabbed my attention. My life: journey has been God calling me to go to uncomfortable places, to do uncomfortable things but each time He met me there. Joy, freedom, healing discovered. I’ll never regret my faith steps and I want to inspire others to do likewise. That is why I created this business. To encourage people to step out in faith, be creative, and live authentically.

I placed everything in the laundry basket and headed upstairs to paint in our spare room. Uncertain of which paints I had used, I spread them all out and chose a blank canvas. I topped off my water for my brushes and used Q-Tips to clean around the paint rims. However, I thought, why not use Q-Tips for painting instead?

With no constraints or guidelines, I painted. I started my painting by creating lines and dots using red paint. Then, I added more colors and blended them with the red paint using a Q-Tip.

As worship music filled the room, I felt myself unwind. Painting has a way of helping me release tension and find peace. I truly believe that creativity is essential—it’s something God wants for us. He calls us to tap into our creativity and express ourselves freely. In that moment, I was overflowing with creative energy, unhindered by any limits, free to explore and let my imagination run wild.
